First Baptist Church of Havelock called Dr. Donald Hadley to be its pastor in September of 1973.  The church and the Hadley family have benefited, we firmly believe, by the long-term relationship that resulted from that call.

Dr. Hadley was born in Evansville, Indiana.  He hold’s degrees from the University of Evansville (BA), Oregon State University (MA), and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC (M. Div. and D. Min.).

Dr. Hadley answered a call to gospel ministry in 1963 and was ordained by the Calvary Baptist Church of Evansville, Indiana that same year.  From 1965-66 he served as a Baptist Student Union director and campus minister at Oregon State University.  He pastored several churches before coming to Havelock.

Don and his wife Sara were married in December of 1966.  They have two children: Havila Dawn Mitchell and Walter Dane Hadley.  Havila and her husband Gray have presented Don and Sara with three grandchildren – Miles Mitchell (2005), Mason Mitchell (2007), and Allison Mitchell (2012).  Dane and his wife Holly have two children – Emerson Wade Hadley (2012) and Ellis Westcott Hadley (2016).  Dane serves as lead pastor of the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Raleigh, N.C.

The pastor enjoys “walking with the Lord” (and with Sara), playing basketball, writing, and reading.  A bit of a bookworm, he gets a kick out of reading and talking theology.  In 1992 he wrote Ministry with the Military, published by Baker Book House.

Opening up the meaning of scripture is the pastor’s passion.  In his preaching and teaching he follows the expository model (word-by-word or thought-by-thought), while doing his best to make sure the timeless Word of God set forth in the holy text is brought to bear on the issues of life and faith people face in daily life.

To get to know the pastor you might consider attending the Sunday School class he teaches, gathering with the church for small group prayer and Bible study on Wednesday evenings, or lining up an appointment.  Of course, you could also challenge him to a game of basketball!
