A FIVE STAR DISCIPLE DEVELOPMENT TRACKING TOOL
In the Great Commission, Christ commands us to “make disciples.”
At First Baptist Church these days how well are we carrying out the disciple-making order given to us by our Lord? Personally, how well are we doing? As a church how well are we doing?
What is more, how can we know how well we are doing?
We need a measuring tool.
With this need in mind, your pastor recommends that we employ the following Five Star Tracking Tool.
There are five star hotels and five star restaurants. There are “five star” movies. There are even “five star” generals. First Baptist Church aspires to be a “five star church” made up of “five star disciples.”
In the Disciple Development tracking tool set forth here, the first star stands for participating in worship. When able, do we gather weekly for worship? The second star stands for participating in Bible Study/Christian education. Do we, for example, study Scripture in Sunday School? The third star stands for sharing life in fellowship and community with other believers. Do we attend church-sponsored fellowships and have we formed meaningful friendships within the church? The fourth star stands for living our strengths in service/ministry. Do we engage in Christian ministry? The fifth star stands for bringing people to Christ through disciple enlistment (evangelism) and disciple mentoring. Our mission, we say, is to “bring people to Christ.” Are we doing it?
Assuming that you are able to perform these tasks, how would you rate yourself? As a disciple of Jesus Christ are you currently a “one star,” a “two star,” a “three star,” a “four star,” or a “five star” Christian?
Here at First Baptist Church our vision is that every member will become a “five star” follower of Jesus Christ and that First Baptist Church will become a “five star” church – to the glory of God, since God deserves nothing less than our best.
Through prayer, through personal development, and through mutual encouragement, let’s work to make it happen!

What Is Our Mission?
Our mission is to bring people to Christ (Mk. 10:13-16; Jo. 1:41; 12:20-22).
The church is the body of Christ in the world today (Eph. 1:22-23; Col. 1:18). Therefore, when we bring people to church, we are bringing them to Christ.
1. When brought to Christ, people experience the holy love of God.
2. When brought to Christ, people are blessed.
3. When brought to Christ, people learn what is good, true, beautiful, and authentically human.
4. When brought to Christ, people hear the life-giving, healing Word of God. The Word of God includes the bad-news diagnosis that we are sinners (Ro. 3:23; 1 Jo. 1:8-9; Ro. 6:23).
Learning the bad news about ourselves enables us to understand why life is not working, why we feel cut off from God, and why we fail to experience the deep happiness that we all long for. The Word of God also includes the good-news remedy for our sin that God has provided in Christ (Ro. 5:8; 1 Cor. 15:3-4). This good news is called the Gospel.
5. When brought to Christ, people receive undeserved love (grace), forgiveness of sin, salvation (wholeness and fulfillment), inspiration, the living presence of God (the Holy Spirit), and a quality of life that is abundant and eternal.
6. When brought to Christ, all these wonderful, life-changing things can happen to people.
7. Those who have been brought to Christ (such as us) are in turn assigned the task of bringing other people to the Lord.
In this way others can also be blessed and can come alive in Christ.
